Magdesign

Website

Overview

Brief and definition of objectives

The client – a hair and beauty salon – approached with a request to create a delicate, feminine website that would highlight the brand’s core value: beauty. They wanted a look that was consistent with their philosophy of holistic care, yet fresh, modern and user-friendly.

Research and Design

Research and inspiration

To better understand the expectations of both the client and their audience:

we conducted short interviews with several regular customers of the salon, asking about their associations with the brand and what they were looking for on the website.

I created a mood board with inspirations: trends in the beauty industry, colour palettes associated with lightness, as well as examples of linear illustrations and floral motifs.

I analysed competitors’ websites – both local salons and larger chains – to find a distinguishing feature in the form of a more subtle and artistic approach.

Graphic design

A light, pastel colour scheme (powder pink, with accents of pink and off-white) that lends a sense of lightness.

Typography: elegant, light, sans-serif for headings and body text.

Minimalist photos of hairstyles, treatments and flowers – single-line drawings that do not overwhelm the content.

Floral motifs in the background of sections and headings as a metaphor for blossoming beauty

Information architecture and UX

  • A clear H1 heading directly defining the nature of the business
  • Prominent display of contact details at the top of the page
  • The offering divided into 3 main categories – categorisation on the homepage and in the menu
  • Prominent placement of the testimonials section – emphasis on
    social proof
  • Division of the price list into service groups, use of striped tables to improve readability
